A Double Open Day in Keighley

A double open day in Keighley on Sunday 26th April brought many visitors to the town of Keighley in the Aire Valley of West Yorkshire. The parties involved were Keighley Bus Museum and the currently operator of services in the town and surrounding areas Transdev in Keighley.

I first visited the Transdev depot just outside the town centre which was open to visitors for a family fun day event which included stalls selling merchandise including Keighley and District uniform jumpers, of which I bought myself. Other buses from the Transdev division also made an appearance.

Here we have Transdev in Keighley "The Shuttle" Volvo B7RLE Wright Eclipse Urban YJ07PBX not in service on show to the public. This particular vehicle will soon be off for a facelift. More on this to come.

Here we have Transdev Burnley and Pendle Volvo B9TL "The Witch Way" Wright Eclipse Gemini 2 BD63HCL at the Transdev Keighley depot not in service on show to the public.
Here we have Transdev Harrogate and District Volvo B7TL "City Connect" Wright Eclipse Gemini 2 X1VTD at the Transdev Keighley not in service on show to the public.

The Keighley Bus Museum were offering free bus services for the day connecting the Transdev depot with the Bus Museum event and a couple of vehicles were doing the trips between the two sites including Yorkshire Coastliner liveried Leyland Olympian B521 UWW and Crosville Bristol L LFM756 of which I sampled and both were fitting vehicles particularly the Olympian and don't half show modern buses to shame.

Quite a few vehicles in preservation were on show at the event including the following:

Oldham Corporation Leyland Atlantean PDR1 163 OBU163F

Ulsterbus Leyland Alexander Tiger 1250 OXI1250

Pennine Dennis Dart Plaxton Pointer D15 R717YWC

Yorkshire Rider Leyland Atlantean GUG547N and ERF EC12 M175 MBA

West Riding Leyland Panther LHL164F

Preserved Travel London Dennis Dart SLF Plaxton Pointer II W404UGM

"The Shuttle"

As you may also be aware, The Shuttle service 662 between Bradford Interchange and Keighley Bus Station is being upgraded, the currently fleet of 13 Volvo B7RLE Wright Eclipse Urban buses are due to be modernised with a new interior, new moquette seating, plug sockets and free Wi-Fi plus the buses are also due to be fitted with new engines, private registration number plates and also are having the revised front from the Wright Eclipse II family with the new headlights. The first bus to be completed was on show at the event on Sunday 26th April.
